Grenna Bluegrassis the oldest festival in Sweden.
Värdshuset Hjorten was for sale in 1973 and the Bergströmarna - the brothers Janne and Pelle and the cousin Thomas - saw a golden occasion. They moved from Eskilstuna and soon transformed Hjorten into an institution and a gathering place for the whole of Grennabygden.
Bluegrass bandet BMG from Gothenburg and well-known Grus in Dojjan guest played regularly at Hjorten and Bergströmarna lit up to one hundred percent of bluegrass music. Initially, mandolin, banjo and harmonica were acquired and learning tips, only similar bands were booked on Hjorten for several years. After eager practice, Staffans Stollar was eventually formed.
In the late seventies, most of the Swedish bluegrass bands played on Hjorten, including Country Grass from Eskilstuna, with Bosse Gustafsson in the lead. He realized that around Sweden there were many groups dedicated to playing bluegrass and oldtime music and started the magazine Bergsbladet as a contact forum for them. Together with Bergström, he also took the initiative for a music event in Grenna. The year was 1978 and the first festival was a fact.
