Hike in nature that inspired John Bauer

Walk along the most beautiful route between Huskvarna and Gränna - the John Bauerleden. A popular hiking trail of almost six miles through a varied landscape of Småland forests, lakes and farmland. The trail offers several vantage points with fantastic views of lake Vättern and lake Landsjön.

The John Bauerleden trail is about 58 kilometres long and is one of three Småland trails that run through Jönköping municipality. The other two are Holavedsleden and Södra Vätterleden. The trails all share the orange colour trail markings, and all have rest areas with shelters. John Bauerleden connects to various other trails: in the south to the Södra Vätterleden trail and in the north to the Holavedsleden trail and to the Västanåleden trail south of Gränna.

Named after an artist

John Bauerleden is named after the well-known Jönköping artist John Bauer, famous for his magical motifs and fairytale-like interpretations of Swedish nature. Along the trail, you will soon realise that it is precisely from here that John Bauer got his inspiration. This makes the walk here even more magical.

Many old buildings

You will pass by many interesting old buildings along the trail. Near Gränna is Röttle village, where you will find Jerusalem Mill from the 13th century. It is one of the country's oldest non-ecclesiastical buildings. There is also Rasmus Mill from the 17th century, which is still in operation.
